A Look at HD Production for Live Events

July 14, 2010

One of the strengths of Ogden Media is our ability to plan and produce a live multi-cam HD production, both in studio and on location.  We have employed these skills to film car races, corporate seminars, training sessions and live music shows.  Many people who see us in action ask us what it takes for a live production to come together, and I’d have to say that it’s a product of three key ingredients – great teamwork, great gear, and great execution.

First, it’s important to have a great team of people in place.  The ability of the team to communicate, solve problems and complement each other’s skill set is fundamental to an effective production team.  Second, you have to have great equipment.  For live productions we usually use multiple HD cameras, a live switcher, recording deck, studio monitors and radio communication headsets.  Depending on the event our cameras may be separated by hundreds of feet and effective monitoring of each camera feed, as well as direct interpersonal communication, may be difficult.  Having the right gear ensures that we are capturing the event exactly as we intend to.  Lastly, the team must understand the production goals and work effectively to meet them.  The ultimate success of the project depends heavily on the ability of the team to execute their individual tasks within the framework of the larger production.
