Video and Google "Juice"

May 4, 2011

How Video Content Improves SEO and Search Rank

If your business has an online presence, then you know (or need to know) about Google “juice”, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and the factors that help your website rise to the top of search results.  The most important factors that give your site “juice” are quality, original content and the number of inbound links your site has.

Content on your site can take many forms, including keyword-rich text and blog posts to photos or videos.   After Google purchased YouTube in 2006, they instituted their universal search model, which effectively re-weighted the search algorithms to favor websites that included video content.

Once you have video content on your site, focus on creating quality inbound links to your site.  Here’s a basic strategy that we incorporate with all our clients:

1. Create video content, post it to your YouTube channel, and embed the YouTube link on your website

2. Post your website link to your social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc), generating inbound links from several reputable sources

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2

Simply put, content is king and video should be the central component of your overall content strategy.  Leveraging the power of social media to create quality inbound links further increases the value of your video content and greatly increases the online visibility of your business.
